Dr. James Downey is the Technical Manager for the Microgravity Materials Research Program at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center. He has worked at NASA for over 20 years and served in a variety of positions such as the Mission Scientist for the Life and Microgravity Spacelab on STS-78, the Lead Discipline Scientist for the Microgravity Biotechnology Program, the Lead Engineer for the Ares I-X Roll Control System, the Contracting Officer’s Technical Representative for two Alternate Access to Station contracts, and a reviewer of propulsion documents for the SpaceX Acceptance Review. He has authored or co-authored several peer reviewed papers on topics in diffusion and mass transport. Also, he currently has a patent application submitted regarding a propellant slosh damping method.
